Emmanuel baptist Church falmouth

Our Leadership at EBC

Emmanuel Baptist Church Falmouth is led by a team of Godly leaders made up of our Pastor, Elders and Deacons.

Emmanuel baptist Church falmouth

The Pastor and Elders provide spiritual oversight, direction and general leadership whilst the Deacons are responsible for the day-to-day administration and organisation of the church.  Our practice in recent years has been to appoint Deacons for designated areas of the Church life: finance, property, pastoral visiting, children, worship, etc.

Darren Bovis-CoulterPastor
Hi, I am new to Cornwall as of 2023 coming from a previous pastorate in Coventry, but originally hail from Essex. I had lived by the coast most of my life, even on a yacht on the River Dart for a number of years, so returning to the coast is a welcome change over being land locked in the Heart of England for the last 12 years. My wife Nikki and our 3 children, 2 dogs, 2 cats, 3 tortoises, 1 snake and a gecko make up the Bovis-Coulter (BC) gang. We are all looking forward to serving EBC and this wonderful part of Cornwall with Ephesians 4 as our banner to equip His people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

I am member of the Eldership Team and, together with my wife, Kate, I lead a housegroup based in St Day. We have three children. Kate's hospitality creates a warm welcome while my Tree Surgery business keeps the home fires burning. "We constantly feel the love and care of the fellowship".

In 2008 we moved to Cornwall and Phil and I became members of Emmanuel. Sadly I became a widow in 2012. I have a son and a daughter and 5 grandchildren. Elected as an Elder in March 2020. Increasingly I understand that nothing of value can be achieved in the Kingdom of God without God’s help and guidance and that prayer is the key to doing things God’s way.

I moved to Cornwall to work a summer season and still find myself here 20 years later! I’m married to Kye and when we’re not working or studying we love to spend time with friends and family, or take our faithful companion dog; Spencer out for an adventure. Joining EBC leadership in Feb 2022, I’ve felt a warm welcome and a high level of trust and freedom from the rest of the team. It’s exciting times for us as a community and my strong desire is to see God’s people equipped and empowered to serve him faithfully in every area of their lives.

Alison Hodges Pastoral Deacon
I’m Alison and I have been a part of this church family for over 50 years. I am also blessed with a wonderful family of my own and have enjoyed a God given career as a Registered Nurse before early retirement in 2018. Whilst I was initially resistant to taking on a leadership role, Father God showed me very clearly that this was part of His plan for me and that I could trust Him as in all things. Five years on I can testify to the blessing found in obedience to the Lord and I can also wholeheartedly concur with 2 Corinthians 3 v5 - “ Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God,”. Praise Him for His constant faithfulness

I have been at EBC since I was a teenager and I feel very much a part of the church family. I have served at EBC by helping lead youth groups, offering IT support, running and upgrading the church PA and more recently producing our livestream services. I feel my deacon role is one that facilitates our church services by using my skills of sound engineering, videography and photography. As part of the worship team I help to create an atmosphere that is sensitive to the Holy Spirit, an environment of corporate worship that is God honouring. I help to plan our livestream services, aiming to make them visual and engaging. I believe our church should be accessible to all, have an environment that is attractive and modern where people can comfortably worship. I am excited to work alongside our service leaders to help us introduce people to Jesus through our online content.
Bill HusthwaiteChurch Treasurer
My wife Margo and I have attended EBC since 2017. Previously we had the joy of worshipping and serving in churches in different countries and denominational “streams”. Joshua 24v15 has been important to me throughout my life “… as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”, and as a husband and father I have endeavoured to live this out, at times with mixed success but always grateful for the grace and love of Jesus Christ in my life. I became Treasurer in 2023. My previous finance career has provided me with the functional skills required for the role, but more important than this is my belief that church finances should reflect the vision of the church, and that the primary role of the Church Treasurer is to regularly hold the vision up before the church.
Nathan Offord Deacon
I'm Nathan and I've been a member of ebc since I was a child and currently I am the "missions deacon". I love living in beautiful Cornwall and enjoy meeting new people, spending time out on the water- be that on a surf board, windsurfer or in a gig boat and a good summer beach bbq.
Amy Growcott-SmithChurch Manager
When I moved to Cornwall in 2012, I became part of the Emmanuel family. It is my home and it is where God called me back to Him. I was Baptised in 2017 and shortly after felt God ask me to give my life to the church. I worked as Community Facilitator at EBC for 3 years before taking some time to support my family. In late 2022 God called me to be the Church Manager at Emmanuel despite my doubts that I was the one He and the Church needed. But God is good and reminds me daily 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' I love my job helping my church and community and being a part of building God's Kingdom here in Falmouth.
