Our Leadership
Emmanuel Baptist Church is led by a team of Godly leaders, made up of the Pastor, a team of Elders and a team of Deacons.
The Pastor and Elders provide spiritual oversight, direction and general leadership whilst the Deacons are responsible for the day-to-day administration and organisation of the church. Our practice in recent years has been to appoint Deacons for designated areas of the Church life: finance, property, pastoral visiting, children, worship, etc.
Charles BlizardMinister
Charles has been the Pastor for Emmanuel Baptist Church for 25 years arriving in Falmouth in April 1996. He is a graduate of London’s School of Theology, and before entering the ministry he was an accountant. Charles is married to Mary; they have four grown up children and seven grandchildren. Charles is a keen sportsman playing golf and squash, and on Saturdays can be seen watching his youngest son playing football for Falmouth Town.
Nigel BirdElderI am member of the Eldership Team and, together with my wife, Kate, I lead a housegroup based in St Day. We have three children. Kate's hospitality creates a warm welcome while my Tree Surgery business keeps the home fires burning. "We constantly feel the love and care of the fellowship".
Hazel EvansElderNorth Devon was my home until I married and moved to the West Midlands. I worked in banking before becoming a full time mum. In the hotel business & member of EBC in Falmouth since 1978. Widowed in 1990, I have 5 grown up children and 10 wonderful grandchildren. I love gardening! I became an Elder at EBC in 2019. We seek to be guided by God as we lead & care for our church family.
Kate Dinwoody ElderIn 2008 we moved to Cornwall and Phil and I became members of Emmanuel. Sadly I became a widow in 2012. I have a son and a daughter and 5 grandchildren. Elected as an Elder in March 2020. Increasingly I understand that nothing of value can be achieved in the Kingdom of God without God’s help and guidance and that prayer is the key to doing things God’s way.
Alison PlummerWorship and Creative Arts DeaconHaving attended EBC since I was 2 years old, I became a member after being baptised at the age of 14. I married Drew in 2004 and we have been blessed with three children. I became part of the Leadership team in July 2016 in the role of Worship and Creative Arts Deacon in which I oversee all areas of Worship and Service Planning. Emma Munden Children’s and Youth Deacon Hi everyone, my name is Emma and I am privileged to be the Children and Youth Deacon here at EBC. Since taking on this role in 2013 it has been a blessing to see God working so much within the various areas of EBC and our community. Myself and my family live in Falmouth, I met my husband Paul when taking part in a summer beach mission based at EBC and moved to Falmouth when we got married twenty years ago. We have been blessed with two children, Lewis and Isabella who are now teenagers. Have a question about our childrens offering at EBC?
Alison Hodges Pastoral DeaconI’m Alison and I have been a part of this church family for over 50 years. I am also blessed with a wonderful family of my own and have enjoyed a God given career as a Registered Nurse before early retirement in 2018. Whilst I was initially resistant to taking on a leadership role, Father God showed me very clearly that this was part of His plan for me and that I could trust Him as in all things. Five years on I can testify to the blessing found in obedience to the Lord and I can also wholeheartedly concur with 2 Corinthians 3 v5 - “ Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God,”. Praise Him for His constant faithfulness
Rick CookmanProperty DeaconI was born in Truro Cornwall, but moved to London at 10 years of age and finished education at Fleet School in Hampstead. Indentured to Electronics company in North London, on returning to Cornwall with a friend started an electronics company manufacturing Fire & Safety Control Equipment to FOC standards. A change of jobs to become Technical Manager to a company manufacturing Atomic Time & Frequency systems, my next job was as a Cartographic Draftsman & IT specialist for Western Power Distribution during my employment with them I became baptised at Emmanuel Baptist Church. I am now responsible for overseeing the maintenance of the church building.
Jeff MountChurch TreasurerI am the Church Treasurer, I am married to Kathy with 2 step children, Alex aged 17, and Jacob aged 15. Throughout my working life I worked in finance and was a financial adviser. I became a Christian some 23 years ago and my heart is very much in mission. I have visited Myanmar three times on Mission trips.
